January VBARC Meeting

President Steve, W4XQ called the meeting to order at 7:33 PM. As the first order of business, Steve wished everyone a Happy New Year and then went on to thank everyone who went to the Vision 2010 Meeting for the great ideas they came up with.
Steve recapped some of the highlights from the Vision 2010 Meeting:
- Continue doing the Ham 101 programs
- Get a property list together
- Phone tree
- QSL cards
- Advertise the auction in May, a sale table and a one minute code course
- Donations for radio equipment in wills
- Donations for snacks at meetings
- Learn NATO phonetics
- Have someone greet new visitors
- Suggested a Golden ticket for admission to several venues (Ham events)
- Restore the publication of our newsletter
- Get involved with health fairs and beach events for hurricane awareness
- Hook up with local television stations to get them involved with events
- A meeting place of our own
- Shack day at someone's house for different training items
- Satellites, tech days and building antennas
- Maybe a bus trip to Dayton can be arranged if anyone is interested in going
- Hand out club information at meetings to newcomers
- And many more

It was mentioned that February 5th & 6th is the Polar Plunge at the oceanfront and Frostfest in Richmond is on the 6th.
The club agreed that we should once again hold our Holiday Party at the Oceanfront Ramada, again catered by Mahi Mah's, and like the highly successful event for 2009 we should invite other area clubs to join us.
The Shamrock Marathon Is March 20th and 21st and a pre-race meeting will be the Thursday prior (18th). Al WA4TCJ needs APRS equipment for this annual event. Two trackers if possible. If you have one you can spare for this event .
After the announcements we held our elections for 2010. Steve W4XQ was elected President for a second term, as well as John WB4AXY as Vice President and Bernadette as Secretary. Bob K4NTO, decided that it was time for a break in his long tenure as VBARC Treasurer and stepped aside leaving the seat up for grabs. John WT4M won the position for 2010, thus rounding out the club's officers for 2010. All currently sitting directors won their seats for the coming year, Al WA4TCJ, Joe KI4RKB, Bill WA4EUL, George WA4GDB, Stew K4STW, Lew W4BLO and Don WQ1E. Our Past President remains Don KC4H who rounds out our leadership for 2010.

In an effort to get ahead of the game, we are now accepting designs for this year's Field Day T-Shirt. The winning design will receive a free T-Shirt. Designs will be voted on at a club meeting prior to Field Day and will not be altered at the whim of the membership. In other words, vote for a design that you like, as we will not entertain "mixing and matching" of multiple designs (as has been done in the past). This slows the process and does not take into account the delay that such alterations would incur.
If you would like to be a Field Day Team Captain please contact (our Field Day Coordinator). Please don't forget that there is a Field Day Forum available here at the website to get your ideas "on the blackboard". In March we will have a kick off meeting for Field Day; the time, date and location TBA.
President Steve W4XQ thanked Bob Zabot, K4NTO for being the club's treasurer for the last 8 years!

The 50/50 was won by Jeff Hanscom KA1DBE for $32.
The next regular meeting will be February 4th at Saint Andrew's United Methodist Church.
Respectfully submitted, Bernadette Williams KI4VCR VBARC Secretary
